Responded to the hom
Responded to the home of a man who was the oldest surviving male in his family at 40–already post CABGx4 with multiple caths and MIs. He calls for chest discomfort, and knows better than to wait, and he’s right! While giving report to the hospital, he lays back his head, looking at me… but not looking at me. Yeap, he’s dead. Precordial thumps x3, paddles, 200joules. He sits up… FINISHES HIS SENTENCE! …and then says, “My chest hurts,” looks at my partner, with paddles. “Oh shit!”

Three pts were brought in: one w/ meleana, taking a dump (Oh, the odours!), another one just two beds down the line, w/ diarrhea plopping mighty plops of doom, and in between I had to see my pt: married straight guy who contracted HIV and had no idea how (‘probably a toilet seat’, as if that would fool any healthcare pro). That day I cursed curtains, why no actual walls? (much has changed since)

This is actually quite sad. A while ago we had a pt brought in after being resuscitated after cardiac arrest. His heart was now doing kind of ok, but he was still unresponsive. The ironic thing is that it turned out he was the driver of a hearse and he’d had an arrest at a funeral. Don’t think he made it out the hospital alive.

Drunk female on a stretcher in front of our ward clerk who asked the nurse to keep her money safe and then proceeded to reach into her underwear and pul out a large wad of bills which the nurse took AFTER putting on a pair of gloves! Much laughter from the nurses’ station.

Love the patients who tell you they take “Latex” for fluid and have had “stool in their blood”, and are very put out when you ask them in triage since they have had their stated problem for weeks or months, what made them come in tonight (usually around 3 am).

My partner & I were dispatched to a suspected cardiac arrest. On arrival we were met by a couple who said they had had seen a lady sitting on her front porch in the same position two days in a row and she was still there. When we approached her, my partner tried to call out to her and got no response. He felt her neck for a pulse and turned to me and said feel her hand. When I did a finger broke off. It was plaster maniquin, but even close up it looked like a perfectly good obese woman.
we bring the homeles
we bring the homeless 30/f to the county ED for some bullshit headache. staff surprisingly didn’t throw her out into the lobby and gave her a room. one of their rare single rooms. we wheel her there and she’s upset that the room didn’t have a bathroom in it and she’d have to walk to the shared bathroom in the hallway.

Had a young girl come into triage and said she snorted rat poision. Girl was scratching her nose with registrations pen when I asked why she did that. She said a friend gave her bad cocaine. While waiting in the lobby she gets angry and pushes my 80 year old AMS/confusion patient waiting for triage next because she said he stepped on her kid. The 80 year old comes into triage and says “i must be in bad shape cause i didnt see any kid”. Ya girl has no kids, ends up restrained. Old man is admitted
